Wow. It’s Friday Already

Actually that’s a lie. I’ve been waiting for this Friday for a bit now. Gotta pack for Kansas City because GRL starts next week. I will be making swag packages when I come back for anyone who wants one.  Maybe I should make something unique for anyone who comments on this blog for the swag packets. What do you think? Opinions? *grins*

I know you all have opinions.

We’re circling around to election day. And God, please vote. Just vote. I’m voting this weekend and as I’ll be in the UK when that day hits, I’m counting on all of you to make sure I have a nice country to come back to! My mom used to say that to us when we were kids… well not country so much as house. Make sure I have a nice house to come back to.

Like I was going to build a pool while she was at work or something.

I am probably going to hazard a dump cake in the coming month. I’ve made them before in the past but they were way too sweet. I like cake. But I don’t like frosting. A dump cake in theory is a great solution. Still way too sweet. Maybe I should just make the  cake part and leave it at that. Best thing in the world? Hot chocolate cake with butter.

And coffee.

Vietnamese coffee. Mmmmmmm.

So, today’s question… favourite desserty thing?

So Tired.

Life is soooo fraught with stuff! Mostly because I’m scrambling for GRL stuff because you know… stuff! I am winding down on swag and packing stuff up. I do hope to have swag packages but I don’t know how many. Or if there is a need.

Weather here just got a bit drizzly today. So that’s actually nice. I love rain. I could use more rain. Like a thunderstorm would be great. *grins*

How is life going for all of you? What’s the next three months look for you?

New Book, New Facebook Group, & Dim Sum

So a lot’s been going on with regards to my keyboard and Word. I just got notice that my latest submission to Dreamspinner Press has entered the editing queue (Poor Grace, my lead editor) and will be out in March.

The book is called “There’s This Guy” and it’s a bit of a departure for me in that I don’t actively murder someone in it. This isn’t a murder mystery, paranormal or urban fantasy. I was sort of “challenged” to write a contemporary and thought, okay… let me have a go at it. As one of my betas put it… Oh I can definitely tell you wrote it.

I’ll do a cover reveal once I get a blurb and a publication date but basically it’s about Jake and Dallas, two men who come at life from vastly different perspectives. Jake needs a bit of healing and Dallas is definitely someone to have in your corner for support.

This will be a standalone but let me tell you, it’s difficult not to murder someone. It’s just the way I lean. I went through all of the OMO is this going okay feelings and doubts I always have when writing so the book went true to form. It was a great challenge and stretched a few brain muscles that needed stretching.

So I was all… okay, ready for the killing again.

And instead, I’m working on Dim Sum Asylum. Expanding it to a full length novel. Which is a bit insane because you know, urban fantasy so I have a lot of room to work with.

Dim Sum is different from Kai in that Roku has sex. There’s sex on the page. Roku has relationships. Kai has to learn how to have them so the jumping off point is a bit different. I’m enjoying having the faerie in San Francisco in Roku’s world. The logistics of wings…dealing with INSECT WINGS… is a fun challenge. Clothing! Seriously, thank God the wings bend or I’d be dealing with transportation issues as well.

Lastly, I have started a Rhys Ford Reader group on Facebook. There are a lot of reasons it’s on Facebook and I hope that even if you aren’t on Facebook regularly, you consider joining. It’s an open group for another week then I’ll be closing it so only members can view, post, comment and participate in exclusive contests and ARC lotteries. I weighed all the pros and cons of where to put the group…and it had to be in one location for logistical reasons. I know I’d botch managing multiple locations and Facebook provided a good, solid and lockable portal.

If you are interested you can see and join the group at this link. Rhys Ford’s Coffee, Cats & Murder

That’s it for now. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I need more coffee and um… I have to get back to cursed statues. *grins*

Michael Nava is Back!

I want to take a moment and speak to all of you about this author and his writing. Michael Nava is one of the foundational writers in the genre and his Henry Rios novels paved the way for so many authors. He laid the groundwork…solid, fantastic writing… and opened doors, hearts and bookshelves for everyone who followed. I consider him to be as much of an influence and inspiration on so many levels as the alphabet itself.

He is returning to the Henry Rios series and introducting a re-imagining of the first book, retitling it Lay Your Sleeping Head.

I cannot express how critically important this series…hell, ALL of his writing is. On so many levels. I urge you to please consider grabbing it…either in pre-order with a signature or as an ebook. I am so damned excited to see Nava, a master wordsmith, back at the forge again.

I will be providing additional links as they become available

Thirty years ago, The Little Death introduced Henry Rios, a gay, Latino criminal defense lawyer who became the central figure in a celebrated seven novel series.

In a brilliant reimagination of The Little Death, Lay Your Sleeping Head retains all the complexity and elegance of the plot of the original novel but deepens the themes of personal alienation and erotic obsession that both honored the traditions of the American crime novel and turned them on their head.

Henry Rios, a gifted and humane lawyer driven to drink by professional failure and personal demons, meets a charming junky struggling to stay clean. He tells Rios an improbable tale of long-ago murders in his wealthy family. Rios is skeptical, but the erotic spark between them ignites an obsessive affair that ends only when the man’s body is discovered with a needle in his arm on the campus of a great California university.

Rios refuses to believe his lover’s death was an accidental overdose. His hunt for the killer takes him down San Francisco’s mean streets and into Nob Hill mansions where he uncovers the secrets behind a legendary California fortune and the reason the man he loved had to die.

4628783889_295x340MICHAEL NAVA is the author of an acclaimed series of seven novels featuring gay, Latino criminal defense lawyer Henry Rios which won six Lambda Literary Awards.  In 2000, he was awarded the Bill Whitehead Award for Lifetime Achievement in LGBT literature.  The New York Times review of the last Rios novel called him “one of our best.” His most recent novel, The City of Palaces, was published in 2014 by the University of Wisconsin Press.  The City of Palaces was a finalist for the 2014 Lambda Literary Award for best gay novel and was awarded the 2014 International Latino Literary Award for best novel. His new novel Lay Your Sleeping Head, a reimagining of the first Henry Rios novel published 30 years ago, will appear in fall 2016 from Kórima Press.

Absinthe of Malice is now available on Audible, Amazon Audio and other third party audio-etailers!

Absinthe of Malice (Book 5 in the Sinners Series)

“We’re getting the band back together.”

Those six words send a chill down Miki St. John’s spine, especially when they’re spoken with a nearly religious fervor by his brother-in-all-but-blood, Damien Mitchell. However, those words were nothing compared to what Damien says next.

“And we’re going on tour.”

When Crossroads Gin hits the road, Damien hopes it will draw them closer together. There’s something magical about being on tour, especially when traveling in a van with no roadies, managers, or lovers to act as a buffer. The band is already close, but Damien knows they can be more brothers of sorts, bound not only by familial ties but by their intense love for music.

As they travel from gig to gig, the band is haunted by past mistakes and personal demons, but they forge on. For Miki, Damie, Forest, and Rafe, the stage is where they all truly come alive, and the music they play is as important to them as the air they breathe.

But those demons and troubles won’t leave them alone, and with every mile under their belts, the band faces its greatest challenge overcoming their deepest flaws and not killing one another along the way.
