Got a Question for Rhys Ford?

FishGhosts_FBtakeover

It’s question and answer time! I’ve got a facebook chat coming up this Saturday. It’ll be from 9 am PST to Noon on Dreamspinner’s Facebook page. I’ll post a link before it starts.

There will be giveaways … wooooooot free stuff! And readings and um…. Something. What? I didn’t know there’d be a test!

But one of the things I do ask ahead of time… like right now… is if there are any questions you might have for me. I’ll answer them on Saturday and then post links here for everyone who couldn’t make it.

I’ll be doing readings from FOUR pieces this time around. Probably. Yes. *nods*

I have coming up: Fish and Ghosts, Dirty Deeds, Clockwork Tangerine and Tequila Mockingbird and I’ll talk a bit about Devil’s Brew, which is a short being released just before Tequila. I’ll also be talking about coming books like Bobby and Ichi in Down and Dirty.

So, be sure to come on by. Win stuff! Get drunk! Okay, that’s on you but I shall NOT judge!

Leave your questions here and yeah, pretty much anything you want to ask. Any book…any series.

Hope to see you there.

TJ Update: Surgery

From Teej: Eric has opted for the surgery. Didn’t even let me finish explaining what the neuro had said. Kept interrupting me with “Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go.” He knows it’s time to kick this thing in the ass. Surgery should be either Monday or Tuesday.

We got this. He is too fucking strong to let this beat him.

TJ and Eric Update Dec 21 2013

From TJ:

I am hesitant to write this, only because I haven’t completely wrapped my head around it yet.

We received some very difficult news from the neurologist last night. Our friends and family are aware. This is meant to let you all know what will happen in the near future.

Eric has what is known as a cavernous hemangioma attached to his brain stem. This is a non-cancerous, calcified tumor. He actually has multiple hemangioma’s in his brain, but it is the one on the brain stem causing the issues. He had an operation back in 2005 on the brain stem to remove as much of it as possible. Unfortunately, it grew back. This led to the significant breathing issues he has been having as part of the brain stem controls breathing.

He has two options. The first option is to do nothing. Eventually, and probably quite soon, Eric’s brain stem will be cut off from the rest of his body, causing quadriplegia, and eventually death.

The other option is surgery on the brain stem, and all the risks that come along with it. The neurologist, as blunt as a person could be, basically said the highest hope would be to preserve how Eric is now, with a traech or attached to a ventilator for the rest of his life. The choice is going to be up to Eric.

But since I know my husband to be very well, I know he is going to choose to fight. Because he has so much to fight for. He has done this once before and he can do it again. And I will be damned if I am going to let this be the thing that takes him away from me. He will have the surgery, and it will be next week, hopefully sooner rather than later. If you believe in a higher power, please pray. If you don’t, just keep him in your thoughts. He is the greatest man I’ve ever had the pleasure to know, and the fact that he chose to love me out of everyone in the world is something I don’t know that I deserve. And even if my heart is breaking, I will hold it together for him.

TJ and Eric Update

From TJ:

At work for the first time since this all started. Eric Arvin won’t be having any procedures for a bit, so I am home for the next couple of days trying to place catch up. He is resting comfortably today following the tracheotomy yesterday. The final scan we are waiting for should arrive via courier at some point this morning. I have already warned everyone at the hospital that I will be texting every ten minutes.

I was told by my employer when I got in today that I do not qualify for FMLA since Eric and I are not legally married. FMLA is what protects your job when an emergency arises and you need to take extended leave. Just when I was about to lose it, my boss told me that it didn’t matter what the law said, that they were going to let me have as much time off as I need and I don’t need to worry about my job in the slightest. I couldn’t ask for a better employer.

I have enough vacation time to cover for a couple of weeks, so I don’t have to worry about paychecks for a while. But you have all made the fundraiser go over 31K yesterday, so I know we have a cushion there. I can’t thank you enough.

State of the Rhys, Books and Passes

FishandGhosts_Ford_FinalSo…. Fish and Ghosts drops on December 30th. It’s kind of snuck up on me because I’m nose deep… er really so fricking past nose deep on Tequila Mockingbird that I’m coming up for air and saying… Shit! Tristan and Wolf… whom I LOVE.

Really.

How much do I adore writing this couple? I hadn’t planned on Fish and Ghosts to be anything past a one off. Yep. I was all, hey let’s do a paranormal and make it fun and maybe a bit scary-ish but nothing too serious. A fun book.

Yeah, about that. No, instead it’s spun off into a series and I’ve got to come up with another Wolf and Tris adventure. *grins* RIGHT after I finish Tequila Mockingbird—Connor and Forest’s story.

My year is already planned out. Deadlines are stacking up as are Publication dates. In fact, it kind of looks like this in the first half of 2014.

  • Clockwork Tangerine (novella) is Feb. 19
  • Dirty Deeds is Mar. 28
  • Devil’s Brew (novella) is May 21
  • Tequila Mockingbird is 2Q 2014

Clockwork TangerineI don’t think I’ve done anything but fret over Clockwork. Steampunk is a damned hard genre and doing it in a novella was a challenge. But I’m pretty happy with what came out. Really, I’d love to go back and visit the world again. If only to see what Robin’s blown up at Marcus’ estate.

Dirty Deeds is the next Cole and Jae book. I’ll be working on its cover soon. I really want to get Tequila done since its deadline is nipping at my tail. Look for something different in Deeds. This book is more Cole centric and he’s battling his own demons. Jae’s—Jae. And a happy Jae. 😀

Devil’s Brew isn’t something I’ve spoken about but it’s a short novella featuring Miki and Kane. Keep in mind, this novella does lead into Tequila Mockingbird’s release and I took the time to explore a few things Damie and Miki needed talking on in this. Mostly though, it’s about Miki trying to deal with a “normal” perspective of Valentine’s Day. Miki does not do normal well.

salt-and-tequilaThis leads me to Tequila Mockingbird—and Connor and Forest. Dudes, this book is killing me. Really. It’s a delicate balance of so many things I am breaking my brain. Just finished a sex scene and am thinking—dear God why is every chapter like four thousand plus words? It’s probably going to be the longest of the series but that’s just because of the subject matter of Connor exploring his sexuality. I do hope you all enjoy it. Breaking. Me. *grins*

This is only the first half of the year. There’s other projects in the works. In fact, everything I’m talking about now is either written or mostly written (Tequila Mockingbird is the almost). I’ll have a few more projects in 2014, including a co-write project I’m rather excited about.

But first, Fish and Ghosts!

There’ll be contests and Giveaways and the what nots. Please watch this space for a chance to win things AND I’ll be doing a Facebook chat on December 28th at 9 am Pacific Standard time. I’ll be doing readings and um.. giving stuff out.

Sinners_Gin_Pass_frontLastly, Sinner’s Gin backstage passes. I’ve got about seventy of them left so, first come first serve if you want one. If I run out, I’ll try to order some more in the coming months so no worries if you don’t get on this wave. Although really, I don’t think I’ll run out.

Just email me your address and I’ll send one along. Let me know if you want it signed. I’ll have to get envelopes. International is fine. Really. Dudes. Least I can do. Drop me a line at rhysford (at) vitaenoir (dot) com.

Much love. Stay warm if it’s cold where you are. Go to the beach if it’s warm. *grins* It’s raining here and the dogs are snoring. My life. Soooooooooo exciting.

TJ and Eric Update 18 Dec 2013

From S.a. McAuley:

Eric got his trach today, I’m sure you’ve all seen the update from Tj. Sjd and I are on this shift for the Crack Crew so we wanted to stop in and drop a quick note.

Eric’s entire family is lovely beyond words. Which I’m sure doesn’t surprise any of you, knowing him. And they are all more grateful for your support, prayers and messages of love than any of them can express. They read every message you post and your words are keeping them strong. It’s keeping Eric and TJ strong.

Thank you for being there for our beloved Eric and TJ and keep those positive vibes coming their way!
