Blergh… Authoring. The flip side of Writing.

The problem with switching over to the “AUTHOR” part of this writing gig is trying to decide who to ask to host a blog tour, especially one that reboots an older series like Cole and Jae.
After a lot of consideration, I’m going to look at first asking blogs who reviewed Hellion, my last book, especially release day reviews. Regardless of rating, I think reviewing an author’s book on a site is a show of support.
I will NEVER ask a review site to curate a rating for me. I find that as offensive as click-farming and page-stacking a KU book.
Digging at stuff like this… business stuff… is probably the worst part about writing. Authoring is a different kind of animal from sitting in front of a keyboard and creating a story. It’s about marketing and branding as well as audience outreach, making sure you find the readers who would like a particular book.
So, the edits are finalized and early ARCs will be going out soon. February is coming up and I do have a serialized story in mind for this tour. Because the boys are married and it wouldn’t be fair not to show that day.
Right?
** That probably came out sounding odder than I intended. I’m not humaning today. I have a list of reviewers I ping for early ARCs and that’s the list I draw from for blog tours as well. Since Back in Black is… writing in the same headspace as Hellion, it makes sense it would line up with those blogs.

A brief peek at the Autistic Spectrum Brain

Man, the street walk is exactly right. And don’t give me shit about the “gender” thing 😀 . I didn’t do the film and it’s for kids. They probably just went default.

Sunday

I am awake only because the dog needed to go potty. He woke me up to tell me he needed to go and it was serious because normally he can sleep through anything so…. out he went. Cat was fed and while I’m sorta awake, sleep tugs at me.

This is really normal for after GRL. The event tires me out and this year was no exception. There was some rumblings of fuckery people had about so that was expected but honestly, I was too scatter-brained and pinballing about to really take notice.

I did see SJ York and he looked happier and healthier than I’d ever seen him so good for him. Actually it was great to see a lot of people. Jordan Hawk and his wife, Beth, are always a damned delight to see and talk to. I adore them greatly. And right now it’s too early in my morning to scrape together names. Seriously. What the hell? Every author I interacted with on a social basis was lovely and it was great seeing their faces. I didn’t get to see enough panels because we were trying to get the reader preorders sorted out but the narrator’s panel was a delight (THANK YOU GREG!) and can I tell you it was fantastic to be able to settle down in the bar at night and just talk to people.

Readers. Hell, you all make the event a gorgeous thing to go to. I want to thank everyone who came by the lounges and signing. It’s great talking to all of you and hearing how your year went. It’s always good to catch up.

Today I’m doing laundry and writing because World Fantasy Con is this coming week and I’ve a lot to do. Including catching up on sleep. Driving to ABQ was very long and driving back was even longer it seemed *grins*

Off to Kai and well, then working on other stuff. Love you all!

Missed Greg Tremblay’s Back in Black Narration Sample at GRL? Listen to a Mastered rendition at Rhys Ford’s Blog!

If you weren’t able to make GRL or missed Greg Tremblay’s reading of the first section of Back in Black, have no fear because he’s recorded a sample for everyone in his studio for me to share. It was fantastic to hear Greg bring Cole back to life and I am grateful for the positive response all of you have given me so thank you all so much!

So here is Greg who will always be Cole’s voice for me. A huge shout out to the baby brother I found along my writing journey and I am as always in awe of his talent.

McGinnis Investigations: Book One

There are eight million stories in the City of Angels but only one man can stumble upon the body of a former client while being chased by a pair of Dobermans and a deranged psycho dressed as a sheep.

That man is Cole McGinnis.

Since his last life-threatening case years ago, McGinnis has married the love of his life, Jae-Min Kim, consulted for the LAPD, and investigated cases as a private detective for hire. Yet nothing could have prepared him for the shocking discovery of a dead, grandmotherly woman at his feet and the cascade of murders that follows, even if he should have been used to it by now.

Now he’s back in the dark world of murder and intrigue where every bullet appears to have his name on it and every answer he digs up seems to only create more questions. Hired by the dead woman’s husband, McGinnis has to figure out who is behind the crime spree. As if the twisted case of a murdered grandmother isn’t complicated enough, Death is knocking on his door, and each time it opens, Death is wearing a new face, leaving McGinnis to wonder who he can actually trust.

In ABQ!

I have hit New Mexico after many days of driving. The knee had to be babied all the way over so it was short spurts across the desert and then staying at hotels. We finally made it. Checked in and had food. Then collapsed for a bit. Hooked up with Hawk and Beth for dinner… and chatting. Then more chatting then collapsing again.

We are gearing up for GRL and I’ll be posting photos and all of that in the coming week! Watch this space!

Going to GRL 2019 in New Mexico? Here’s my Sked!

Come find me and take some swag home! Really, I don’t wanna bring it back. The cat’s gonna divorce me because it’s taken over the guest room. He wants his space back! *grins* Hope to see you there!

Saturday! Saturday!

Actually today’s been a pretty lazy morning except for coffee and writing. It rained a bit which is always welcome in San Diego because dudes, we need rain.

Tammy’s here from Belfast. I have to take her someplace other than the living room but circumstances have led us to be housebound for a bit. But today might be a drive or something outside. It depends on how I feel and well, how many words I get going today.

GRL is on the horizon and I’ve got a bit of swag left to pull together but we can do that quickly. Maybe tonight. 😀 Or at least get a start on things. I have promised to try to get the buttons into the cafepress shop so… that’s a thing that needs to happen 😀

I have plastic food ramen bowls with tags on it for Ramen Assassin that need to be assembled and that’ll be something good to do while I’m watching Drag Queen or we might watch the Boys or Derry Girls. Depends on how much brain we have. We also have a SHIT TON of ice cream that needs to be eaten.

So that’s where I’m at. Going to drop into a call with the Five and then… back to Kai!

Crispy Brownies

I know… it’s a strange topic but I prefer brownies that are very crispy. I also like cookies that way. No idea why. It’s just how it is.

I’m five days out from Hellion’s release and things are settling down with regards to all of that but that also means it is time to ramp up writing. Since TA Moore arrives here on Tuesday Night, I need to get into the habit of writing at least a little bit every day so we both can get our books finished.

I think that’s the worst part of being a writer… gotta sit down and get this done.

We also need to organize our swag for GRL and well, I’ve ordered all of the gluten free donuts in San Diego for Tammy. Because one needs donuts.

I’ll also plan on feeding her a lot of Mexican food.

I’m working on Kai… and well after that will probably be Luke because his story is burning in the back of my head. Kai’s a rough one this time but that’s on me. Not on the plot or the characters. I’d been dictating but sometimes the story itself needs just loud music and a keyboard. The new TOOL album has been great and well, there’s always Metallica to keep me going.

So that’s what’s on my plate this week. I hope you all are doing well. Oh… and there’s so much planned for 2020. Can’t wait to get the clearance to share!
