I’m going to toss a couple of pieces up here for free download. Not so oddly enough, both of them have to do with dragons of one kind or another. Yeah, strange how that happens.
The first is a short “horror” story I wrote as Reece Notley. Now, copyright has come back to me…it’s been two years so I’m going to share with you the story my mother succinctly described as “The reason I should have not eaten so much kim chee when I was pregnant with you.” I’m not sure what that means but there you go. I’d have asked her what the fuck but sometimes, it’s best just to not know.
The second piece are the first three chapters of Black Dog Blues. Keep in mind, there needs to be a few more minor edits here but this is the gist of it.
I’m debating self-pubbing BDB because I just kind of want it off my brain and desktop. I love Kai and yes, I gave him a cat but please keep in mind…this cat was here LONG before Neko. Newt’s a bit… special. *nods*
Black Dog Blues is an urban fantasy although some agents have described it as sci-fi. It needs a better blurb but hey, this is what I have for now. I’ll include it at the bottom.
Why self-pub BDB? Well, because I don’t think it’ll find a home elsewhere. There’s no romance per se… although there is a romantic interest(s)…both male and female. It’s not true female main cee kick ass urban fantasy and neither does it star a strong, troubled mage male who is willing to die for his beliefs.
Kai’s not into dying. *grins* He wants to make money and maybe leave the world a better place than when he came into it. Beyond that, a full tank of gas would be nice too. So, here it is. You let me know if it’s worth self-pubbing. 😀 Maybe in February? Or would I be polluting the brand of Rhys Ford?
Meh. I’m going back to W&W. *stabs chapter*
And yes, I know Kai’s last name is Morgan. It just fit. Go with it. It doesn’t matter. No, he’s not related to Kane and their ilk. Apparently I needed to use that last name twice.
Here you go: Black Dog Blues Chapters 1 to 3 and the “horror piece” tatsu
BLACK DOG BLUES is a novel set after a violent merge of Earth and Underhill, leaving the humans, sidhe and unsidhe with a messy and conflicted world.
Won in a high-stakes poker game, elfin Kai Morgan was raised by a human Stalker named Dempsey. The pair traveled, accepting personal runs and dealing with the occasional monsters too large or vicious for local law enforcement to handle until an accident retired Dempsey out, allowing Kai to set up shop in San Diego as a fully licensed Stalker.
When Ryder, a powerful sidhe, starts up a Dawn Court in the human city of San Diego, Kai is conscripted by SoCalGov to do a job for the sidhe lord. It’s a simple run, Dispatch told him, head up the coast during dragon-mating season to retrieve a pregnant human woman seeking sanctuary with the new Court. But this “simple” run leads to the human-cultured but ethnically elfin Kai being caught in the middle of a deadly bloodline feud, and to the predatory attention of both elfin races.

I’ve spoken about Gus Gus before. He’s my cairn terrorist that suffers from an anxiety disorder of epic proportions. We’ve been working on it for some years now and it’s made all the more difficult because cairns are by nature, very stubborn and headstrong dogs.
