Back from Korean Music Festival and Dirty Secret

I spent this weekend up in Los Angeles with a bunch of friends in Koreatown.

Oh, and Friday night, I got an email from Dreamspinners Press. They are optioning Dirty Secret and it has entered the editing queue. Scheduled release will be September/October. So…. great fricking weekend!

On Saturday night, we headed up to the Hollywood Bowl for the Korean Music Festival. Lots of bands and singers and fun.

And God, SO MUCH FOOD. And soju.

Life is good. And fun.

Now to finish Sinner’s Gin :::winks::::

Family Time

Apparently they do this every morning…

It has become a morning habit to sing Bohemian Rhapsody on the way to school in the morning. Depending on traffic, we can usually start the song as we pull out of the driveway, and pull into the school just as the song ends.

A five year old’s sense of humour… I haz it.

I was going to write this long post about writing and what nots. Sadly, I started thinking about other things and then, fell into the giggles when I thought of these.

Admittedly, I have the sense of humour of a five year old. These are hilarious to me. I don’t know why. But they are. So I share.

And I GIGGLE! God, I am so ashamed.

Well, no not really but we’ll pretend I do.

And when I was done giggling, I giggled some more.

Dead Man’s Hand by Lee Jay Stura

Dead Man's HandDead Man’s Hand by Lee Jay Stura
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

For Denver Sinclair, long-time conman, gambler, and recently-made vampire, there were worse things than sleeping late next to the woman you love, except when it’s close to dawn and the world is crashing down around you. Denver and his partner in crime, Lily Fong, are caught between hellfire and destruction as the Great San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 turns his carefully built life upside down.

He and Lily were so close to freedom from Denver’s Mistress, the cunning and cruel Lady Xue Ying. He’d gambled, stole and smuggled for Xue Ying, holding back a little with each con until he had enough to run far from Xue Ying’s influence, taking Lily with him. Just one more dirty deal on the Barbary Coast, and he could leave San Francisco…and Xue Ying… behind.

It was a dangerous con. The greatest con he would have ever pulled. Despite controlling most of San Francisco’s opium and shanghai trade, Xue Ying longed for more. Her capricious appetites and furious temper meant one thing for Denver; that she would never let him go. As far as Xue Ying is concerned, she’s owned Denver body and soul since long before the night she forced her blood on him and turned him into a vampire.

He had hopes Lady Xue Ying didn’t survive the Earthquake but Denver wasn’t taking any chances. He would take Lily and make a run for it, praying to the God he’d forsaken that they’d make it. With the US Army imploding the city around them and ravenous flesh-hungry ghouls plaguing their every step, Denver and Lily race through the ruined city for the promise of their new life together.

Still, Denver wonders if he’s finally run out of luck and drawn the dead man’s hand.

Dirty Secret Sneak Peek [Caution: Smut Ahead]

The hardest thing about writing is not really knowing what is going to happen before you write it. Sure, I can plot the shit out of something but actually putting the words down? That’s like a roll of the dice. And admittedly, when you’re face first into the screen for hours on end, you start to lose focus of what you’re doing then all of a sudden, everyone’s naked and you’ve got to put out.

Sex scenes are kind of difficult. I think there has to be a good balance between emotional satisfaction and physical gratification. I’ve read a lot of books where it was pretty much Tab A goes in Slot B and squicka squicka squicka. Fluids all over the place and men shouting “Fuck me hard with your ivory shaft of hot love!”

I don’t think I’ve ever heard nor said that while having sex. Maybe it gets some people’s buttons. I dunno. It just seems kind of weird.

I’m going to share a bit of Cole and Jae that happens in the first third of the new book, Dirty Secret. It’s not a lot and honestly, I can’t share a lot more without spilling spoilers everywhere. Also, the book’s not been optioned yet so please keep in mind, this isn’t the final end all be all. It’s got to go through edits and such so consider this a beaten up final.

I’ll talk about Sinner’s Gin maybe tomorrow. :::laughs::: God that book’s kicking my not inconsiderable ass.

Let me show you the land of my people…

I’ve been AWOL of late. Mostly because I went home to visit my Mom in Hawai’i. Got no writing done but hell of a lot of food, driving around and coffee drinking. So…. yeah, I have to get back into the groove of things. No word yet about Dirty Secret from DSP but it’s early yet. Going to dive into Sinner’s Gin since I don’t go back to work until Monday.
