This man is a god. A GOD.
Upcoming Late June Release: Black Dog Blues
Coming June 2013, Black Dog Blues, an urban fantasy by Rhys Ford.
Ever since he’d been part of the pot in a high-stakes poker game, elfin outcast Kai Gracen figured he’d used up any good karma he had when Dempsey, a human Stalker, won the hand and took him in. Following the violent merge of Earth and Underhill, the human and elfin races were left with a messy, monster-ridden world and Stalkers were often the only cavalry willing to ride to someone’s rescue when something shadowy and dark moved into the neighbourhood.
There certainly were no shortage of monsters or people stupidly willing to become lunch for one.
It was a hard life but one Kai liked. And he was good at it. Killing monsters was easy. Especially since he was one himself.
After an accident retired Dempsey out, Kai set up permanent shop in San Diego, contracting out to the local SoCalGov depot. It was a decent life, filled with bounty, a few friends and most importantly, no other elfin around to remind him he wasn’t really human.
That was until a sidhe lord named Ryder arrives in San Diego and Kai is conscripted to do a job for Ryder’s fledgling Dawn Court. It was supposed to a simple run; head up the coast during dragon-mating season to retrieve a pregnant human woman seeking sanctuary with the new Court then back to San Diego. Easy, quick and best of all, profitable. But Ryder’s “simple” run leads to massive trouble and Kai ends up being caught in the middle of a deadly bloodline feud he has no hope of escaping.
No one ever got rich by being a Stalker. But then hardly any of them got old either. The way things were looking, it didn’t look like Kai was going to be the exception.

IDAHO… South Korean Style. Hop(e) Against Homophobia and Hatred.
The words below the line are taken from an article. These are not my words. But oh, they are my intent. I look forward to the day when someone says… I’m gay and the answer is not anger, not hatred, not violence but love.
I also hope for the day when saying I love other men or other women isn’t a cause for pause and reflection. I hope for one day that it just doesn’t fucking matter because really, we’ve got so much to do as human beings… for one another… for the place we live in… for the land we’re on… for the species around us.
We have the greatest power given to any one creature… the ability to change things for the better. Please, in your day, do ONE thing to carry our destiny of bringing happiness to our existence ONE step forward.
Thank you. Rhys Ford.

Over 100 South Korean LGBT people and allies star in a YouTube video in support of gay rights released this week (Monday 13 May).
Korean Gay Men’s Human Rights Group Chingusai organized the recording of You Make me Proud, a song created by Sydney Gay and Lesbian choir to mark IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia) in 2012.
‘[The song] conveys the conviction that, just as LGBT people affirm and recover their lives and selves despite countless challenges and hardships, all people can overcome injustices in reality and become friends, which will lead to greater love,’ said a statement from Korean Gay Men’s Human Rights Group Chingusai.
‘Though our society fails to understand LGBT people now, viewing them from a discriminatory perspective,’ said Chang-won Pyo, a professor, in the YouTube video. ‘One day it will come to acknowledge and understand homosexuals and other sexual minorities, in step with the global trend.’
The celebrity to come out in South Korea, Hong Seok-cheon, also stars in the video saying:
‘I hope homosexuals will no longer be ashamed of who they are but lead their lives proudly and openly.’
Lesbian singer Ziihiion joined the recording of the song after hearing that anti-discrimination legislation was stalled by conservative Christian lawmakers recently. ‘All people, all loves, all relationships must be respected equally. I support LGBT rights,’ she said.
Black Dog Blues and Timing
As some of you know, I’ve got an urban fantasy called Black Dog Blues lingering in the back woods of my files. It features a bisexual male elf who pretty much is entering into a relationship of sort with another guy. Location is Earth following a tragic “smashing” of the human and elven worlds.
Agents hated it… one told me to make Kai a girl. Another said um… no on the gay. I was all… um… fuck you all. Okay maybe not that but mostly my brain said… no.
I’d gotten advice to just do it. Go into the mass market arena with Kai in a traditional male-female way but something… I dunno? Pride? Gall? Ego? Id? said no. I love Kai. I love his world. He’s not a pushover and honestly, he’s not looking for a relationship but he seems to be finding himself in more of them every day.
So, now comes the time when I decide what to do with him. He’s bi. Not that he acts on it but he’s not gonna go down with the M/M indies. He wouldn’t fit there. It’s also written in traditional urban fantasy style. Which was fun but dear God, a shit ton of work and damn it, I want it published.
So self-pub it is.
There’s a space between Dirty Laundry and Whiskey and Wry where I could self-pub him. That space is fast approaching. My editor is almost done with the book and I might toss in a sex scene because really, it would make sense to have one. Especially between Kai and the main love interest. But more importantly, it would put Kai out there and he wouldn’t be lingering on the back burner.
I will be announcing a blurb and launching a cover. I’ll probably lay the book down in June and see where it goes. It’ll be available on Paperback and ebook. I’ll have to figure out Nook placement and stuff but that should be easy. Other than Amazon and B&N, anywhere else you all need it? I’ve done Smashwords but oh, is the response there worth it? Opinions all? Don’t think he’ll suit for ARe. It’s not really a romance.
So, where would one buy Kai? *grins* Guess I better find out because off he’s about to go into the wild blue younder.
Help Charlie Come Home

I know the home Charlie is going to and it’s a wonderful, loving home with fantastic people and two feline sisters who really can teach him how to laze about in the sun, take his insulin and get any belly rubs he might want.
If you’ve got a couple of dollars burning in your wallet or hell, just spread the link beyond to spread its noise, I ask you to do so.
Help bring Charlie home. Please.
