Find Me A Series Name!

Find Me A Series Name — CONTEST IS CLOSED! I am now debating the merits of the names! HWAITING!

Okay… I’ve been putting this off because my brain’s just been really lean. Like hella lean…

I have to come up with a name for a series. Usually it’s pretty easy. Something hits. This time… not so much. I don’t want to do something corny like The Four Horsemen. But it has to be a bit catchy.

Oh, and this is dark urban fantasy… from DSP Publications.

The focus in this book is Kismet, the human and his interactions with The Four. Primarily. Yes.

The winner will be determined by the name that tickles my fancy. I won’t make a decision until 9:30 tomorrow. I kinda have to make a decision because I’m being looked at askance by the powers that be.

What will you win? Besides my eternal gratitude, you can certainly beta The Four BUT you can also be a character in the next book in my queue, Sloe Ride.

Time starts now…. *grins* Leave your suggestion below in the comments and make sure I can get a hold of you. *grins*

Here is the blurb…. for THE FOUR

milesapm1Kismet Andreas lives in fear of the shadows.

For the young tattoo artist, the shadows hold more than darkness. He is certain of his insanity because the dark holds creatures and crawling things only he can see—monsters who hunt out the weak to eat their minds and souls, leaving behind only empty husks and despair.

And if there’s one thing Kismet fears more than being hunted—it’s the madness left in its wake.

The shadowy Veil is Mal’s home. As Pestilence, he is the youngest—and most inexperienced—of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, immortal manifestations resurrected to serve—and cull—mankind. Invisible to all but the dead and insane, the Four exist between the Veil and the mortal world, bound to their nearly eternal fate. Feared by other immortals, the Horsemen live in near solitude but Mal longs to know more than Death, War and Famine.

Mal longs to be… more human. To interact with someone other than lunatics or the deceased.

When Kismet rescues Mal from a shadowy attack, Pestilence is suddenly thrust into a vicious war—where mankind is the prize, and the only one who has faith in Mal is the human the other Horsemen believe is destined to die.

The first thing that springs to mind is Jim Morrison – Riders of the Storm. I know that’s hackneyed and, knowing you, you’ve thought of and rejected it already, but the song popped into my mind as I read the blurb. I’ll think harder.

  2. Sign of Four
    Out of the darkness
Or just ‘The Four’ then the first is One of Four, Two of Four, Three of Four and completing it Four of Four.

Oh man this is hard lol. This is all i’m coming up with: 1). Dark Riders 2) Shadow Riders. 3) The Fatal Four 4) Romp and Ruin (idk i assume sexy times will occur and the four probably lay waste to everything so yeh lol) 5)

  4. Carolyn

    Shadowriders (Shadow Riders)
    Shadowsiders (Shadow Siders)
    Darkriders (Dark Riders)
    Harbingers
    Dires

  5. Janet Black

    How about

    Karma and Kismet
Or for a more direct nod to the four
On Through the Dead Of Night

  6. Julie Bouchard

I posted it on FB, but will put it here. IV is Roman for 4. So, Ivy League. And, apparently 4 is a death number for Asian cultures? Is there a word or a play you can make on that?

  7. Sky Dancer

Shadow Heir — there’s a book by this name but not a series to my knowledge. Shadow Destiny was another thought but there is a Shadow of Destiny Series by L. Shaw also a video game…it’s really hard to find something unique these days.

Does Kismet have his own studio? Because Apocalypse Ink is calling to me. It leaves an opening to play with Kismet’s art and/or a playful or sarcastic reference someone can use for the Horsemen (Apocalypse Inc.).

  9. Well my first response of “Shi” was taken so my second choice is going to be “”Fire Through the Veil”. I know “Fire” doesn’t sound impressive as a series name but I does mean four in Norwegian.

Okay – because the “I can see you” is a total play on words if one MC is seeing the “real” horseman (’cause we gotta have some love going on here)

  18. The Quarter Series? Since there are four of them, each is one quarter of the whole. The books could be like Death’s Quarter, Mal’s Quarter, etc….

  19. Cathy Romanczuk

Insane Ink or Ink of Insanity
    Insane inkiness
The Tartar Horsemen (from a quote by T.S. Eliot–“Here, across death’s other river The Tartar horsemen shake their spear.”

  20. Patricia

    Infernal Imperator

(Imperator. This was a special title given to commanders who had been hailed as such by their troops after a victorious battle. Under the empire it was only used by the emperor himself and his designated successor or collegue.)

  21. Shannon Hayes

This is certainly a challenge hmm…..
    The Veil’s Destined Four
    Kismet’s Gamble
    Kismet’s Four Horses
    The Veil’s House of four

  22. Colette

    Shadow’s Fate / Fate & Shadow

    Veil of Shadows
    Broken Seals
    Madness & Mayhem
    Ink & Shadows

Since The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are in the Book of Revelations, I’d hazard a guess:

    Shadow Revelations
    Mortal Revelations
    The Fourth Revelation
    The Revelations of Sin 🙂

As in “bane of my existence”… Or humanity’s existence, in this case!
    Bane’s Veil
    Bane’s Revealed
    Four Banes
    The Fallen
    The Fallen Four
    Chaos Agents
    Culled and Conquered

  25. The Final Four
    The War of the Four
(Because Omega means the End): The Omega Wars, The Omega Four, The Agents of Omega
Oooh….found this in the Urban Dictionary : “An Alpha Male MUST absolutely be perceived by his peers as the toughest, most popular, and smartest. An Omega Male cares little for this recognition…but knows that he is all those things and more.
Alpha males must have the support of his “boys.” This can be the foundation for many shallow and superficial relationships. An Omega Male needs support from time to time, but has few true friends who know him intimately and generally shuns shallow acquaintences. ” Thinking this describes the 4 horsemen perfectly!

This is what happens when my brain starts churning when I’m tired & on pain meds!
PS- did you say the winner gets a dragon too? 😇

Since you said the contest was closed, I would just like to say that the title that absolutely caught me the most on the first read (which is how I pick names for my characters) is Riders of the Storm. It is especially good for a series name and you can find some language that has appealing names for each of the Riders.

  27. Marcine

I also just saw that the contest is closed. I agree with Elorie. I like Riders of the Storm. It has potential, especially as you can work in the meanings of Mal Which is bad or ill and Kismet Andreas which is fate/destiny strong; so we have a strong fate that is looking bad:)
