Sinner’s Gin. Sneak Peek 2
Haven’t heard back yet but we’re still within the range of “Do we want this thing Rhys has written” parametres so I’m good. However, I promised another sneek peek of Sinner’s Gin. Hope you enjoy Miki and Kane as much as I loved torturing writing them.
At the very least, I have this done and scribbling away on Dirty Laundry, book three in the Cole McGinnis series.

Without further ado…or beedo, Sinner’s Gin Sneek Peek.
Sinner’s Gin is off to Submissions! Sneak Peek!
As all of you know, I want a blurb button in Microsoft Word. So, I thought I’d share with you the Sinner’s Gin blurb and a sneak peek of the book. Here’s hoping it gets picked up. Now on to Dirty Laundry *winks*.
Blurb
There was a dead body in Miki St. John’s Pontiac GTO and he had no idea who put it there.
When Miki returned to San Francisco after a tragic car accident that killed his band members and left him injured, he’d planned to lick his wounds and wall himself up in the brick warehouse he’d purchased while on tour. He didn’t plan on someone killing the man who abused him as a child, dumping the remains in his vintage muscle car or for Kane Morgan, a rugged Irish SFPD Inspector, liking him for the murder.
Kane’s suspicions turn out to be unfounded but the danger to Miki’s safety escalates. Soon, the bodies begin piling up and the attraction between the former rock star and police detective heats up, threatening to consume them both. Can Kane keep Miki safe long enough to catch the killer or will the singer be the murderer’s final victim?

Sneak Peek Of Sinner’s Gin
I promised a sneak peek and well, guess it’s time to pony up to the bar and pour a few out. So, here’s a small cut from the first chapter. Hope it tickles your interest. Still a bit rough but close to finished.
Premise: Former musician Miki St. John is hiding from the world. Quite successfully until a cop named Kane Morgan pushes his way into Miki’s life. Oh, and there’s a small matter of a murderer leaving a dead body in Miki’s garage. But Kane will help him take care of that. As well as a few other things.
Black Dog Blues: Kai Meets Ryder. Pissiness Ensues
I’ve just put the final words on the end chapter of Sinner’s Gin. My brain’s kind of lean and I swear to God, my eyes are a blurring liquid in my head. I am going to let it rest and plot out Dirty Laundry (Tentative title for Cole and Jae’s next book) then off into the editing purge to see if SG makes any sense. I’ll be posting excerpts from SG once I get my head in place.
So to keep you company, I’m going to drop a bit of Black Dog Blues to hopefully entertain you. Tonight’s dinner is steak. I’m very lazy. Like I said, no brains left. Without Further Ado… BDB: Kai meets Ryder.

And Now For Something Completely Different…
I started a post about writing but then realized that it was really meandering and went nowhere of any consequence. The dog’s sitting on the couch and we’re watching a vocal reality show I’m partially invested in. Of course I just watched Supernatural and well, the boys… nom.
There was originally an intent to discuss writing and process. Everyone has a different way they write. I personally hate writing. I loathe it. It never fucking matches the emotions in my head and the styles are different from series to series which is nice to play with but then I get all…. Hey, is this going to fuck up a reader who is looking for that hard-boiled-ish voice of Cole? They’re not going to find that in Sinner’s Gin. It’s a different flavour. Is that wise?
Then of course it all boils down to… fuck it.
I have an urban fantasy written called Black Dog Blues. It was sent out and well, received good notes about the writing but the one thing that everyone came back to was… the main character was bisexual and this was going to be a problem. Okay, some people probably just hated it but there was a general consensus that it wasn’t… mainstream.
One agent told me that it would sell if Kai, the main character, was changed to female.
I thought about it. I did. Long and hard.
But, in the end… I felt like Kai’s penis should stay where it is. Between his legs.
Will I pitch Kai out again? Yes, maybe when the publishing houses are feeling more risky. Or perhaps it just sucks. But I love the character. I do. He sticks with me. And I don’t want to let him go. I don’t want to inject a vagina into him just to sell him.
I didn’t think that because I’m an artiste…or that I’m such a good writer that I’ll refuse to compromise the character and writing.
When you’re a writer, you’re a whore. That’s pretty much what it comes down to. We are whores and pimps. We dress up these characters and send them out to walk the streets to earn their keep. Sometimes you’ve got to change what they are wearing and where they go. It’s what the business end of writing is.
But what it all comes down to is when to say “Is this a good choice?”
I’ve sliced apart chapters and erased tens of thousands of words because they weren’t good enough. Bottom line: It has to be good enough.
Is Kai good enough? Dunno but he FEELS good. *cues James Brown* I didn’t want him to be dressed differently, or wear different clothes or speak differently. He just feels good where he is. Do I want to sell him? Yeah, I do. But it’s okay if I don’t. Because I LIKE his world and his character.
Sometimes, that’s enough. You know?
So, here’s a different project. The opening few pages of Black Dog Blues as written by Reece Notley. *bows out* Continue reading “And Now For Something Completely Different…”
Dirty Secret Sneak Peek [Caution: Smut Ahead]
The hardest thing about writing is not really knowing what is going to happen before you write it. Sure, I can plot the shit out of something but actually putting the words down? That’s like a roll of the dice. And admittedly, when you’re face first into the screen for hours on end, you start to lose focus of what you’re doing then all of a sudden, everyone’s naked and you’ve got to put out.
Sex scenes are kind of difficult. I think there has to be a good balance between emotional satisfaction and physical gratification. I’ve read a lot of books where it was pretty much Tab A goes in Slot B and squicka squicka squicka. Fluids all over the place and men shouting “Fuck me hard with your ivory shaft of hot love!”
I don’t think I’ve ever heard nor said that while having sex. Maybe it gets some people’s buttons. I dunno. It just seems kind of weird.
I’m going to share a bit of Cole and Jae that happens in the first third of the new book, Dirty Secret. It’s not a lot and honestly, I can’t share a lot more without spilling spoilers everywhere. Also, the book’s not been optioned yet so please keep in mind, this isn’t the final end all be all. It’s got to go through edits and such so consider this a beaten up final.
I’ll talk about Sinner’s Gin maybe tomorrow. :::laughs::: God that book’s kicking my not inconsiderable ass.

Dirty Kiss by Rhys Ford “Smut Excerpt” [NC-17] Come for the Coffee. Stay for the Smut.
This excerpt starts Chapter 9. Since this book is in Cole’s POV, sex between Jae and Cole is sometimes explosive and complicated. He’s drawn to Jae but oh, the young man in question is definitely Trouble with a capital T. Still, once Cole’s taken a bite of his temptation, he doesn’t want to stop.
Chapter 9
“Lift up your arms,” he said softly, tugging at my shirt. “I want to see you.”
For a moment, I was unsure. I knew what my chest looked like. The starbursts of scars weren’t pretty. I was toned and hard, my muscles firmed up from pounding the bag and running, but no amount of time in the ring with Bobby would do anything to lessen my scars’ ugly color or dimpled skin, but I let him lift my shirt up and pull it off.
He didn’t flinch when he saw the damage, and I watched Jae through my lashes as he traced out each keloid, his fingers leaving a whispering tingle on my skin. Bending closer, he kissed the one near my heart, then licked the longer jagged ruin on my ribs. Continue reading “Dirty Kiss by Rhys Ford “Smut Excerpt” [NC-17] Come for the Coffee. Dirty Kiss Excerpt: Seduction
Thought I would drop a small excerpt from Dirty Kiss today. Friday, people! Woot! Thanks for following me, pimping me and encouraging me.
Excerpt:
I wasn’t sure if the shyness was real, but the contrite glance he gave me from under his lashes did me in. Victoria had nothing on seduction, compared to Jae-Min. If it was artificial, then he was damned practiced at it.
My hands were in his hair before I even thought about wanting to touch him more. Scraping back the black strands, I paused when I saw the small plaster bandage on his temple. Jae’s eyes widened, and he gasped, unsure of what I was going to do. I had to admit, I wasn’t certain myself, but in the middle of trying to figure out if his cousin had killed himself or if he’d had help, I’d tossed aside my feelings for Rick and was falling for a lying, sleek Korean man. Guilt ate at me, worms of censure working through my thoughts as my thumbs ran over Jae’s cheekbones, bringing a blush to the surface of his pale skin.
“Don’t,” he pleaded. There wasn’t much conviction in his voice. It sounded more like a please than a stop. “You don’t want this.”
“Want this or want you?” There’d been other men who’d caught my interest, but none had really made me lust before. Not like this. I needed to push Jae down and make him scream my name. I wanted his hands on my back and to feel him around me. “No one’s made me need them more since Rick.”
“Nothing good ever comes from it. Not for me,” he said, shaking his head. Jae trembled under my fingers, and the tremor ran down his skin and into mine. “Look at what happened to Hyun-Shik.”
