In the past twenty days, I’ve been in four cities. San Francisco for “author” stuff, Los Angeles for a comic convention, back home to San Diego for a few days and New York until yesterday for work.

I can tell you that I hate flying. I love getting there. Flying is the thing of the devil, mostly because I get airsick. Puking my guts out like a starfish at an all you can eat minnow buffet sick. It’s been like that since I was a kid. I’d go into why but I think it would squick out a lot of people. If you’re curious, ask in the comments. Muah hah hah. I’m too tired for sharks-with-lasers evil laughter so that’s just going to have to do.

Met some lovely people at Yaoi Con in San Francisco. Pimped the Coffee Unicorns’ books while I was there. Ah, I will have to get into the Coffee Unicorns group explanation some time soon but suffice it to say, it was a good time.

I’d taken a friend to the con… her first. I figured Yaoi Con was a good damned place to start. Great times were had. Food was eaten and oogling happened.

Who could ask for more in life?

This book shaped my mind. God, I love it to pieces.

Keep in mind that the first movies I ever remember seeing was a double feature of Death Race 2000 and the unrated version of Clockwork Orange at a drive-in with my parents.

Hoshi and I were in San Francisco for Yaoi Con and stopped in at Lou’s  Blues Club. It’s upstairs above the restaurant. I wish I’d gotten the  name of the band. The young guitarist is 15 years old and the son of the  other guitarist. He shredded with the best of them. Very professional.  God I hope he keeps it up. He’s really good.

I’m pretty sure I had one just seeing this car.

Someone asked me in an email; “Where is Jae-Min from? Was he born in America? Or Korea?”

Good question.

Jae is the only one of his family born in the United States. I’ll go into that more in the second book because it is relevant to how he views things. His mother is from the countryside and his father was from Seoul. He and his family have spent a lot of time in South Korea. I will probably have to have his brother Jae-Su go to the army or have already gone to the army when he was younger. It is a requirement for South Korean men to enlist for 18-24 months. They keep changing the time requirements. I’ll leave it vague.

I do not think I’ll have Jae do that two year stint for several reasons. I don’t want to deal with that separation. I’m sacrificing that “reality”.

Another question: Jae-Min and his family seem more old-school than modern. Why?

I chose to have Jae come from a more traditionally Korea-Korean family than say some of my friends whose families have been here for a generation or two. I wanted to depict that family rather than one that’s more Western. Jae is the most “Western” one in his family. I have a friend whose family is extremely traditional but she doesn’t identify herself in that way. That conflict is what I intend to portray with Jae’s internal struggles.

If Jae is Korean, why is his cat’s name Japanese?

Neko came with that name. He just never changed it. She doesn’t pay attention to him anyway. She, like most cats, come when she wants to.

As I get more questions, I’ll post them if they don’t spoil the next book. Haato!
